Online Chemistry Games to Play in a Browser

Short answer: Periodic Mole has seven online chemistry games for practicing element symbols, chemical formulas, and the pH scale. Bond Forge and Pt Paddle are free for the first 12 elements, with no account, and so are Acid Boy & Base Girl's first two missions.

Which online chemistry games can you play on Periodic Mole?
You can find all seven on the games page. Four of them have a mode for playing with a friend, three are free to start, and in five you can play against our lovable robot Cobalt.

What chemistry do you practice in each game?
In Bond Forge, Molecule Hunter, and Capture the Nucleus, you start with element names and symbols, and we match each question to your level as you go. With full access, you move on to ions and their charges, polyatomic ions, and reading and naming chemical formulas. To play a single match on element symbols and names only, set the Questions switch from Your level to Elements. In Pt Paddle you answer while the ball is moving, so we keep every Pt Paddle question on element names and symbols. On the free tier, we keep every question within the first 12 elements.
In Storm the Castle you answer element and topic questions, and for each one you pick a difficulty card: Recall for element symbols and names, Apply for formulas and equations, or Reason for explaining why something happens. In Acid Boy & Base Girl you read pH values to decide which substances are acids and which are bases. In Run the Table you fill in each element's place on the periodic table, the model the Next Generation Science Standards ask high school students to use "to predict the relative properties of elements" (HS-PS1-1). Which games did we redesign in 3D?
We redesigned Bond Forge, Pt Paddle, and Molecule Hunter in 3D. You play by the same rules on the new boards and score the same way, and on a device that can't show 3D graphics, you get the original flat board. Free players get the same 3D boards as paying players.
Bond Forge
Bond Forge is dots and boxes with a chemistry question in front of every line. Answer right and you draw the line, which we call a bond. Pt Paddle
Pt Paddle is paddle ball with chemistry questions. Answer the question on your side quickly and your paddle grows into a longer molecule, so the next return is easier to reach. You play to five points on a 3D court we call the Platinum Arena. Against a friend, you both answer questions during the rally.
We also gave Pt Paddle a new soundtrack and a separate music slider, so you can turn the music off and still hear every hit and miss.
Molecule Hunter
Molecule Hunter is a hidden-fleet game with molecules for ships. You hide your molecules on a grid, then answer chemistry questions to scan Cobalt's grid and find the molecules Cobalt hid there. Each molecule is a 3D model with the element symbol on every atom. You hear a sonar ping when you pick a target, and you can check a list beside the board to see which of Cobalt's molecules are still hidden.
What's new in Acid Boy & Base Girl?
Acid Boy & Base Girl is our 3D puzzle platformer about the pH scale. Acid Boy is safe below pH 7, Base Girl above it, and both are safe at exactly 7. We set their safe zones by the real pH scale, which the U.S. Geological Survey describes this way: "The range goes from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. pHs of less than 7 indicate acidity, whereas a pH of greater than 7 indicates a base."
In October 2026 we redesigned two of the game's rooms with new puzzles, added online co-op, and gave the lab a narrator who describes each test in the style of an early text adventure.

Can two people play these chemistry games online together?
Two people can play Bond Forge, Pt Paddle, and Storm the Castle head to head. In Bond Forge and Pt Paddle, one player starts a match and sends a link, the other joins from any browser, and on the free tier neither player needs an account. You invite a friend to Storm the Castle the same way, but you both need full access.
You play Acid Boy & Base Girl as a team. The host presses Play with a friend and sends a link, and each player drives one hero from a separate device. The host needs a Periodic Mole account, and the friend joins free, with no account. For the missions after the first two, the host also needs full access.
Which online chemistry games are free?

Storm the Castle is a turn-based siege you play against Cobalt or a friend: you answer chemistry questions to muster an army, then send it to storm the keep. Capture the Nucleus is a strategy game you play against Cobalt, moving hidden-rank pieces and answering questions during attacks. In Run the Table you race the clock to fill in a periodic table grid by atomic number, symbol, or name.
